Adult Education – God Who? 10am

April 3 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Who is the God you believe in? Or, who is the God you do not believe in? Does your theology impact your religious practice? If we take seriously the horrors of global history and our present moment, how can we dare to believe in a benevolent God? If contemporary people cannot believe in God as depicted in the Torah, why continue being Jewish?
This month we’ll look at how contemporary thinkers wrestle with these questions, and bring our own insights too. We’ll learn about such things as “predicate theology,” which has gained popularity among liberal Jewish communities, and look at how Orthodox thinkers could maintain their devote practice after the Holocaust. And of course, we’ll bring these questions to bear on our own lives.
A few texts and resources will be provided in the week before class.
