God-Wrestling, A Conversation: Adult Ed with the Rabbi

May 5, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm

God-Wrestling, A Conversation
To be Jewish is to have questions about God. It’s written into our DNA since the time of Jacob, later named Yisrael (Israel). While each of us has our own distinctive process and spirituality, perhaps you have engaged one of more of the following questions:
 How do we/I understand (or not understand) God?
 Is God a What? A Who?
 How can I connect to Jewish ritual if I don’t believe in God?
 If I do believe in God, what kind of relationship do I have with this God?
 What kind of relationships are available to me? What kind of relationship do I want, and how do I create that in my life?
Let’s talk about these ideas together. Using texts from our Torah, the Jewish mystics and present day commentators, let’s explore our certainties and our confusions, our anger, frustration and disappointment, as well as our appreciation and gratitude toward that which we call God. Let’s discuss our beliefs and our disbeliefs, and their deep connec-tion to our existence as the Jewish people – Am Yisrael. For the word Yisrael – Israel – means, quite simply, “Godwrestler.”
