Community Engagement

Our members stay involved in many ways throughout the community. We belong to the Jewish Federation of Northwest Indiana and not only do we have several members on their board, but we regularly attend their activities. We collect year long for the Jewish Federation Food Pantry, St. Mary’s Church Food Pantry, and The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. We also fundraise for a local organization called the Crisis Center, which provides crisis and suicide intervention and counseling for youth ages 6-18. Another commitment is that we support the Lake County Government Child Advocacy Program. We hold voter registration drives and participate in the City of Gary council meetings. We have a yearly yard sale and donate the remaining items to local charities. Being that Miller is a smaller community, we rely on and support our neighboring organizations in their events, regardless of religious or public or private group. Sometimes we plan events together such as a movie night or the community seder.  Trivia Night is our biggest event. This is usually a sell-out. Tables compete in categories for financial prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and of course bragging rights! Food and beverages are available for purchase.
